Senator Oliveira and Secretary Jones to Host Higher Education & Workforce Development Roundtable and

What: On January 13th, Senator Jake Oliveira (Ludlow-D) and Secretary of the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development Lauren Jones will host a roundtable discussion at the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. 
 
The discussion will focus on strengthening career pathways for college students by aligning academic programs with workforce needs, expanding paid internships, apprenticeships, and other work-based learning opportunities, and ensuring equitable access to these pathways. Participants will also examine opportunities for policy action, funding, and stronger partnerships among higher education institutions, employers, and workforce agencies.  

Senator Oliveira and Secretary Jones will be joined by Western Massachusetts legislators, college presidents, career center and workforce development leaders, and higher education and workforce partners.   

Media availability will begin at 12:30 PM, following the roundtable.
 
Media will then be welcome to join Senator Oliveira, Secretary Jones, and Chicopee Legislators as they tour MicroTek in Chicopee. The tour will be an overview of MicroTek’s mission and operations, a discussion of workforce development and training initiatives, inclusive employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, and employer partnerships and best practices in workforce inclusion.
