Denise Kelcey Honored with 2026 Age of Excellence Award
SPRINGFIELD, MA – Denise Kelcey, a dedicated public servant and workforce development advocate, has been named one of the 2026 Age of Excellence Award recipients by Glenmeadow, recognizing individuals over the age of 60 who continue to make a meaningful impact within their communities.
Throughout her distinguished career, Kelcey has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public service. Her contributions include serving as a Legislative Aide to Senator Brian Lees, serving on the Springfield Liquor Commission, and providing volunteer leadership for Relay for Life. More recently, her work with the Hampden County Sheriff's Office has focused on supporting individuals battling substance use disorder and helping justice-involved residents rebuild their lives through career planning, vocational training, and employment opportunities.
Today, Kelcey continues that mission through the Hampden County Deputy Sheriff's Workforce Initiative, where she assists homeless, disenfranchised, and justice-involved individuals in gaining workforce skills and securing meaningful employment. The initiative is dedicated to removing barriers to employment and creating pathways for long-term career success through education, certification programs, supported work experiences, and career advancement opportunities.
The Workforce Initiative offers training and certification opportunities in a variety of industries, including culinary arts, hospitality, light manufacturing, custodial services, and community service. Participants have earned industry-recognized certifications such as OSHA General Industry, OSHA Construction, Hoisting, and ServSafe. Through partnerships with labor unions, municipalities, and local employers, the program helps individuals develop valuable skills while addressing workforce needs throughout Hampden County.
By connecting trained participants with local employers, the Workforce Initiative helps businesses address staffing challenges, reduce labor shortages, and build a stronger regional talent pipeline. Employers benefit from access to job-ready candidates, while participants gain hands-on experience, confidence, and opportunities for sustainable employment.
The Age of Excellence Award recognizes individuals whose leadership, service, and dedication continue to enrich their communities. Kelcey's recognition reflects a lifetime of service and a continuing commitment to creating opportunities and positive outcomes for individuals seeking a second chance.
In addition to Denise Kelcey's recognition, Workforce Initiative Board Director Denise Jordan was also named a 2026 Age of Excellence Award recipient.
