Senator Oliveira Presents $90,000 to Hampden for Town Hall Security Upgrades

HAMPDEN, MA — State Senator Jake Oliveira (Ludlow-D) joined the Hampden Select Board on Monday evening to present $90,000 in state funding to support critical security improvements at Hampden Town Hall, reinforcing safety, accessibility, and day-to-day operations at the town’s primary government facility.

The funding, secured by Senator Oliveira in the FY26 State Budget, will allow the Town of Hampden to implement a modern electronic access control system throughout the building, including key fob entry and zone-based security measures.

“This investment is about ensuring that residents, staff, and visitors can access their local government safely and efficiently,” said Senator Oliveira. “By supporting these upgrades, we are helping Hampden strengthen its infrastructure while allowing local resources to be directed toward other community priorities.”

State Representative Brian Ashe (Longmeadow-D), who partnered in securing the funds, emphasized, “This investment ensures that Hampden’s Town Hall remains both safe and accessible for everyone who depends on it,” stated Rep Ashe. “We are committed to taking proactive measures that protect our community and support the dedicated staff who serve it every day.”

The funding will also support the installation of a comprehensive security camera system across the facility, including 30 to 45 days of video storage, live monitoring for authorized personnel, and potential integration with the regional dispatch center.

Hampden relocated its Town Hall in November 2025 from the historic Town House on Main Street to its current location at the former Thornton Burgess Middle School on Wilbraham Road. Town officials identified enhanced security infrastructure as a key priority following the transition.
By securing this state funding, the Select Board has advanced these critical upgrades while preserving local funds for additional improvements throughout the building.
