Springfield, MA — American International College (AIC) proudly announces the relaunch of its historic student publication, The Yellow Jacket, now redesigned in a digital magazine-style format with virtual newsroom that highlights student voices, campus life, and creative storytelling.

Originally founded as a printed student newspaper in 1934, The Yellow Jacket has long served as a platform for student journalism and campus communication. The February 2026 issue marked the publication’s return after a rebranding period, continuing its legacy while embracing multimedia storytelling, social media, and a more engaging, visually driven format.

The redesigned publication features campus news, student leadership stories, alumni highlights, athletics, and creative work in fashion, graphic arts, photography, videography, and podcasts. The inaugural issue also celebrates AIC’s history and the voices that continue to shape the campus community.

Professor Janine Fondon, co-advisor and associate professor of practice - communications, spoke about the importance of the relaunch and the role of student storytelling in building community through digital newsrooms and publishing.

“Reflecting the talent and opportunity in the Arts, Media and Design Division at AIC, I am honored to work on The Yellow Jacket magazine and AIC Student Newsroom. We merge technology with interactive communication to engage students from all majors-- all who unite to tell the story of AIC from their own perspective.”

Co-Advisor and Assistant Professor of Practice in Digital Media Production Marty Langford highlighted the publication’s role in connecting students and the campus community.

“At its best, a student newspaper becomes both a mirror and a voice for its community, reflecting who we are while shaping how we understand ourselves.”

Jeyralee Santiago, student editor and member of The Yellow Jacket staff and intern with the AIC Student Newsroom, shared how reviewing past archives helped strengthen her approach to editing and storytelling.
“Going back through The Yellow Jacket archives helped me better understand our history and the responsibility we have to continue that tradition.”

With the support of AIC’s Arts, Media and Design Division, The February 2026 issue of The Yellow Jacket was launched digitally, allowing it to be distributed not only across campus, but throughout the broader community, with readers from as far away as Europe.

The release was followed by the March 2026 edition, with both available on the College website at www.aic.edu. Students, alumni, and community members are encouraged to read, share, and contribute to future editions.
